Outdoor TV Antennas
Channel Master has been providing high quality outdoor TV antennas for over 60 years, and has a full line of antennas designed for any location. TV antennas are designed to provide good reception of signals based on the distance the stations you are trying to watch are from your home. Typically, smaller antennas work better when you are closer to the TV station transmitters, and larger antennas are needed when you live farther from the transmitters. Channel Master makes TV antennas that can be used anywhere from a few miles to over 100 miles from the TV station transmitters.
Outdoor TV antennas can be either omnidirectional or directional, although most outdoor antennas are directional. If you select a directional antenna, it may be necessary to have the ability to rotate the antenna to point at the stations you are trying to watch if all the TV stations at your location are not in the same direction.
Another critical aspect to an antenna is the frequency range it can receive. Digital TV signals can be broadcast over two frequency ranges, VHF (Very High Frequency) and UHF (Ultra High Frequency). VHF channels range from channels 2 - 13, where "low-band" VHF channels range from 2 - 6 and "high-band" VHF is channels 7 - 13. The UHF channel range is 14 – 69. Currently, 97% of all TV stations broadcast between channels 7 and 51, and approximately 73% of TV stations broadcast in UHF. Since most channels are broadcast using UHF frequency, most viewers should be fine using a UHF outdoor TV antenna, but Channel Master also provides antennas for channels 7 – 69, and channels 2 – 69. An excellent tool to help you determine what channels can be viewed from your location, and what type of TV antenna will be needed to view those channels can be found at www.antennaweb.org. Additional information on selecting an antenna can be found on the Channel Master Antenna Selection guide.
Since an outdoor TV antenna can be subjected to wind, rain, snow, UV exposure from the sun, extreme heat and extreme cold, the construction is critical to its long-term performance. All Channel Master TV antennas are built out of high quality materials and are designed to operate in extreme climates.
